What To Do If Your Car Gets Towed
If your car was towed (DUI, Suspended License, No Insurance, Parking Citation), you will need another person to retrieve the car from the impound lot. A Notary Public can assist you with the verification process.
The owner of the vehicle will need to give permission to another person. This person must have a clean driving record and valid driver’s license in order to take possession of the vehicle.
First, find out where your car is located. Speak to someone at the impound lot. Find out what is required to get your car (how much money, what type of documents, etc.).
Second, you should be able to download the release document. Complete the form and contact your local Notary Public. The Notary Public will verify your identity and notarize the form.
Third, you can fax, email, or send the completed form to the impound lot. This will give permission to your selected person to take possession of the vehicle.
