When You Need A Notary Public While You’re In The Hospital
At some point in your life hospitalization or a skilled nursing facility may become necessary for you or a loved one. A Power of Attorney, Health Care Directive, or some other document may need to be notarized. Here are a few tips that will help to make the notarization go smoothly.
Do you have a valid ID? A current driver’s license, identification card, or passport is required for every notarization.
Equally important, are you physically able to sign your name without assistance? If the answer is no, you can sign the document by marking an “X”. Your mark must be witnessed by two people.
Other things to consider:
- What time do the nursing staff perform their rounds? It is best to have the Notary Public arrive after the rounds. This will prevent any interruptions during the notarization process.
- What time are hospital visiting hours? Are these hours flexible?
- Is there a special procedure for people who visit you?
Lastly, does the document require witnesses? If the answer is yes, they must be present during the notarization process.
Remember, all signers and witnesses must be present at the time of the notarization. This might make the hospital room very crowded. So, it is best to ask the nursing staff about the procedure before the Notary Public arrives.
